 The château Balac

The noble origins of this very ancient estate date back to the 14th century and it has been home to some illustrious owners: Lord Fraimont de Josset in the 17th century, Jean Saubut, the Honorary Counsel of the Seneschal of Guyenne, Baron du Breuil, one of the most important lords of the 18th century and Mister Luetkens, whose name remains attached to many of the vineyards of St Laurent.
The latter had the building restored by Bordeaux's greatest architect, Victor Louis, who built the Grand Théâtre of Bordeaux at more or less the same time (1776). The estate belonged to Mister Grimally in the 19th century and then to Monsieur Lescoutra.

It was in 1964 that Mister Touchais, a wine grower from Anjou, bought the estate, or at least what was left of it, for the vines had disappeared and the buildings were in ruins. His son Luc took over the estate in 1973, restored it and replanted the vines little by little until he had reached a wine-production area of 17 hectares in the midst of a vast wooded estate.
Their son, Lionel, oenologist has receipt of the experience during his various journeys abroad. Today he takes the responsibility of the behavior of the vineyard and the wine making. The perpetuity is assured and Balac finds a new youth.
